ABOUT HIGH COUNTRY YOUTH PROGRAM

Our Mission

The mission of the High Country Youth Program is to provide education and support for youths, young adults and families who need help over coming the challenges many modern families face.

Our Vision

To equip young men to become people of significance and begin to make a positive impact in the community around them.  Build hope in young men by teaching them a useable skill, positive personal life management including basic financial budgeting and time management.  Help these men of the future develop strong work ethic,  a desire to continue to gain knowledge and a desire to succeed.

Scott and Colette Chandler - Founders

As a young boy, Scott watched his parents take in young men and women who were either without a home, enduring hard times or a tragedy had struck their lives.  Often these youths were considered too challenging for the “system” to handle.  Scott later chose to study Criminal Justice in college.  The apparent lack of options or even attitude for success of those who entered the justice system, led Scott to found his first program for troubled and at risk teens.

Scott knew from personal experience that young people, if provided a safe place to live, an environment to learn in and good mentors, could be propelled toward the best direction for their lives. Role modeling, teaching skills to work and personal life skills are what is needed to unlock their potential.

Not long after, Scott met Colette.  She had a love for the land, strong work ethic and grew up in a family that served others.  Colette traveled to various places around the globe with Teen Missions.  While with Teen Missions, she helped build houses, water supplies and other practical things to help those in need, always trying to teach people to be self-sufficient.

Scott and Colette have five wonderful, happy, talented children.  For the past 20 years they have worked together helping families get their loved ones to move forward and become productive members of society.
